Fred Douglas Laing is the creator. Initially, he worked with an American friend to produce Scottish blends. But he soon became the sole owner.

A year later, Fred Douglas Laing established partnerships with a number of distilleries. His son, Fred Hamilton Laing, joined him in 1972. Since then, the company has remained in the family fold.

Later, in 1999, Douglas Laing turned a corner. It was the launch of Old Malt Cask, its first range of single cask single malts.

They later launched the Old & Rare range in 2002.

The other turning point in its history came in 2013, when brothers Stewart and Fred Laing decided to separate the company into two entities: Hunter Laing and Douglas Laing.

One of Douglas Laing's latest successes is the Remarkable Regional Malts series: Big Peat, Scallywag, Timorous Beastie, The Epicurean and Rock Oyster.
