James Eadie (1827-1904) was a Scotsman who established a brewery in 1854. This self-made man used a family recipe to launch a blend, Trade Mark X, which he began producing in 1854, before patenting the "X" in 1877.

His company was sold in 1933 and continued to produce blend X until 1947.

It wasn't until 2016 that one of James Eadie's descendants, Rupert Patrick, who has worked for MacLeod Distillers, Beam Suntory and Diageo, began bottling independently.

In addition to the resurgence of the iconic "X", since 2017 it has offered a range of small batches and single casks. Read less
