Médine is a Mauritian distillery that has been in operation since 1926. Framed by mountains and the blue sea, it is one of the oldest rum production units in Mauritius.

The distillery lies at the heart of a vast sugarcane-growing estate, from which molasses is produced to make locally-produced Penny Blue rums. The distillery also produces sugar and vinegar.

The Penny Blue rum brand takes its name from the first stamp to be issued outside Great Britain, following an anecdote in the history of Mauritian postage: a mistake was made in the stamp and production was quickly halted. It has become one of the most sought-after stamps among philatelists, and is now the symbol of the distillery. Read less
