Redbreast: the totem of Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey

Redbreast is the world's best-selling brand of single pot still Irish whiskey. Indeed, it is one of the most emblematic representatives of Irish whiskey.

Produced in Midleton, it follows the specifications of the genre. It features triple distillation in iron stills. Malted and unmalted barley is used, and maturation takes place in bourbon and sherry casks.

The most popular Redbreast is probably the 12-year-old. However, you can also enjoy the Sherry Finish Lustau Edition, the 12yo Cask Strength, the 15yo and the 21yo.
In addition, single casks such as the Redbreast 32 ans Dream Cask are occasionally released.

From London to Midleton

It all began in London in 1857. On the corner of Oxford and Berwick Street, two brothers founded W & A Gilbey. As wine and spirits merchants, their success was rapid. In fact, by 1859, they were already present in Dublin, Belfast and Edinburgh.

Since 1887, W & A Gilbey has been firmly rooted in Irish whiskey, thanks to a flourishing collaboration with Jameson.

In 1903, the precursor to Redbreast was unveiled. It was Jameson & Son's Castle "JJ Liqueur" Whiskey 12 years Old.

1912 is the official release date of the first Redbreast. The name was chosen by Gilbey's bird-loving manager, Redbreast meaning robin.

From the 1930s onwards, Redbreast took off.

Much later, in 1985, the last bottles stamped Gilbey were released. It was then that the brand was sold to the Irish Distillers group.

Finally, in 1991, a new Redbreast was introduced via the Midleton distillery. Since then, the range has expanded to include the current editions. Read less
