The Balvenie is a distillery in Speyside, Scotland.

The Balvenie: Success Story and David Stewart

Originally called Glen Gordon, it was built in 1892 by William Grant. The chosen location was next to Glenfiddich, in a disused building: the Balvenie New House. Production began the following year.

Then, in 1923, following the death of William Grant, his son John expanded the distillery. In 1957, The Balvenie 's capacity was again increased.

The 70s were a turning point. The Balvenie launched its very first single malt. Similarly, in 1974, David C. Stewart was appointed cellar master (the fourth in history), before becoming the distillery's emblem.

Later, the 90s brought a new perspective. In 1990, for example, Kininvie was created, a distillery operating completely separately from The Balvenie. And in 1993, The Balvenie became one of the first distilleries to offer a finished single malt. This was DoubleWood, aged in bourbon casks and then finished in sherry casks.

The Balvenie: A plethora of products

Today, the distillery boasts a fine range of editions. These include Triple cask 12 years and 16 years, Peated Cask 17 years, Peat Week 14 years, Doublewood 12 years and 17 years, Carribean Cask 14 years, Single Barrel 12 years, 15 years and 25 years, Madeira and Portwood 21 years.

Finally, there are prestigious versions such as the Thirty 30, Forty 40, Tun 1509 and Tun 1858.
In addition, "The Balvenie DCS Compendium" series is a compilation of rare vintage editions, selected by David Stewart. Read less
