Nico's tasting note of the Single Cask 2006-2020 52.3°
The nose offers us a very tender, very fat, abundantly buttery woodiness. This blend of salted butter caramel and cane juice is highly aromatic, even heady. The cane is more than ripe, and even past its prime, it expresses itself through a Jura-style rancio.
Aeration brings a slightly clearer, more lively air, lifting us out of this buttery mass. The cane regains citrus colors, then reaches more jammy notes, like mirabelle plum or greengage. Finally, there's the occasional hint of wood, tinged with mellow notes of tobacco and gunflint.
The palate is strongly woody but not astringent. After a flight of cane and ripe fruit, it spreads cedar and incense flavors over the palate, with a powdery texture. The lightly sulfured notes that follow take us to toasted cereals and dark chocolate.
The finish is rather spicy, which quietly brings us back to a peppery cane melting among fruity tannins.
"A well-wooded bias, with a nose brimming with buttery notes..."
