A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Ambre d'Or 42°: Description and customer reviews

A.H. Riise Non Plus Ultra Ambre d'Or is the new version of the Non Plus Ultra Sauternes, which is gradually being phased out. It was distilled in the American Virgin Islands, which used to be Danish. It was from this northern European country that A.H.Riise, a pharmacist based in the Caribbean, came. There, he obtained authorization to manufacture all kinds of rum-based remedies.

This cuvée is a selection of the best barrels from the reserve, a limited annual edition finished in Sauternes casks.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is a sweet vanilla-orange bouquet that immediately plunges us into extreme indulgence. A few spices like cinnamon add a little grain to this very smooth rum, which shines with its warm, syrupy character.

Aeration lets the vanilla gently fade away, giving way to very sweet, slightly tart fruit. One thinks of an almost creamy strawberry or cherry.

The palate is as gourmand as the nose, and the rum immediately coats the taste buds with its sweet texture. Candied orange and mandarin first light up the palate, before being joined by Christmas spices.

The finish is long and luscious, with hints of chocolate oranges.

"A rum typical of the A.H. Riise style, with a very gourmand profile reminiscent of Christmas gingerbread..."

I hesitated for a long time between "L'ambre d'or" and "l'ultra black". Even if both are very gourmand, my preference goes to L'ambre d'or . Indeed, this candy, with its candied citrus and slightly lemony notes, is a delight. Like Ultra Black, it's sweet and spicy, but fresher in the end, and for me doesn't have that overpowering effect.

an excellent rum. A sweetness with notes of citrus and grapes. Simply delicious.

A fine, rich, sweet - vanilla aromas, high character.
