Old Saint Croix Non Plus Ultra Ambre d'Or is the new name for Non Plus Ultra Sauternes . It was distilled in the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were once Danish. It was from this northern European country that AHRiise, a pharmacist who settled in the Caribbean, came. There, he obtained permission to manufacture all sorts of rum-based remedies.
This cuvée is a selection of the best barrels from the reserve, a limited annual edition finished in Sauternes casks.
Note: Old Saint Croix is the new name for the AH Riise brand . The rum remains exactly the same!
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is a sweet vanilla-orange bouquet that immediately plunges us into extreme indulgence. A few spices like cinnamon add a little grain to this very smooth rum, which shines with its warm, syrupy character.
Aeration lets the vanilla gently fade away, giving way to very sweet, slightly tart fruit. One thinks of an almost creamy strawberry or cherry.
The palate is as gourmand as the nose, and the rum immediately coats the taste buds with its sweet texture. Candied orange and mandarin first light up the palate, before being joined by Christmas spices.
The finish is long and luscious, with hints of chocolate oranges.
"A rum typical of the A.H. Riise style, with a very gourmand profile reminiscent of Christmas gingerbread..."
