Nico's tasting notes
The nose offers a fine entry into the English style, with full-bodied, slightly coppery, spicy, toasty aromas. It's somewhere between the damp metal of a still, the burnt wood of an oak barrel, and a handful of pan-fried walnuts.
Aeration brings a little more roundness, but the rum profile remains very similar. Its typically English character remains its main asset, taking us on a journey through gunpowder, engine grease and very exotic, ripe fruit.
On the palate, the rum is light and fluid, but retains its smoky, almost coppery identity. The pecans are well-roasted, caramelized and coated in molasses, a very rustic and extremely rich treat. The wood is fleshy and imbued with a 5-spice blend, both fragrant and full-bodied.
On the finish, the wood delivers softer, more familiar notes of vanilla and coffee.
"An accessible rum because it's very smooth, but also a sailor's brandy with a strong character...".
