Big Peat Christmas Edition 2023 is the 13th edition of this peated whisky created especially for the holiday season by independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co.
This is an Islay blended malt, which means it's a blend of peated single malts sourced on the Isle of Islay.
It includes distillates from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen. This cuvée is unique in that, for the first time, this Christmas cuvée has been finished in sherry casks.
This Scotch whisky is bottled brut de fût, with no chill filtration or coloring added.
Jérémie's tasting notes
On the nose : damp peat, meadow grasses, a saline note in the background.
On the palate : the attack is frank, dry; it releases spices with a peppery side, before the peat spreads, bringing with it aromas of toasted cereals and dried fruits.
The finish : spices that leave their mark on the tongue and the smokiness of peat that lingers for a long time.
