Bulleit 10 years 45.6°: Description and customer reviews

Bulleit 10 Year Old is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This appellation requires at least 2 years' ageing in heavily toasted American oak casks. Here, the contract is more than fulfilled with this 10-year-old small batch. The mash bill of this bourbon contains a high proportion of rye (28%), which is its trademark.

Florian's tasting notes

The dress is amber with thick, sticky tears.

The nose is very imposing. Rye and flowers, lilies and violets work in concert with fudge, orange and preserved lemon. The woodiness is soft, with nutmeg and butter.

On the palate, it's rich, round and dry at the same time, sparkling with pepper, fine with lily flowers, round with the sweetness of caramel and candied orange, a little milk chocolate, then a woody, toasty, brioche-like bittersweetness.

Long finish of nutmeg and flowers.

"Another successful American! Soft and dry at the same time, it adapts to all situations..."

On the nose 👃🏻: I find a very spicy juice on the first nose and a little more woody than the 6 to 8 year old Bulleit. The predominant flavors are cinnamon and brown sugar; it's very greedy and relatively intense. It also hints at dried fruits such as bananas and apples. As the minutes go by, the vanilla comes out more and more, always underlined by a nice spicy woodiness.

On the palate 👅: the spices attack from the outset, making it clearly pass for a 50% Bourbon. The woodiness expresses itself well, a damp oak supporting the cinnamon as well as a note of pepper that enhances this palate with vigor. This is followed by a lovely caramelized note, all round. Subsequent sips bring toasted almonds, with more toast and pepper.

The finish is moderately long and drier. We're on a note that's a little more vanilla-driven with a baked apple aspect, and I have nutmeg to close the deal 👌

Verdict ⚡️: this is a fine alternative for those who prefer well-wooded Bourbons to younger ones like the 6-8 year old Bulleit. Both have good taste for the price. The rye notes stand out a little less here in comparison, we perceive much more the impact of the bousiné oak barrel with its "alligator toast" 🤠
