Bulleit is a Kentucky bourbon whose origins date back to the early 19th century. Augustus Bulleit distilled his first batch in 1830, and continued to produce his bourbon until his death in 1860. At the time, it was made from 2/3 rye and 1/3 corn. That would make it a Rye today.
In 1987, Tom Bulleit decided to continue his grandfather's work by opening his own distillery. Today, the mash bill is 68% corn, 28% rye (which is still relatively high) and 4% malted barley. Two distilleries produce the brand, in Lawrenceburg (Four Roses) and Shelbyville.
These bourbons are known to be aged longer than average (minimum 6 years). Read less
