Cane Island Barbados 40°: Description and customer reviews

This rum, bottled by Cane Island, is a blend of rums distilled in Barbados, partly in column and partly in pot still.

The blended rums are aged in American white oak barrels in a tropical climate. Some are up to 8 years old.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is balanced, very faithful to the Barbados style. The American oak barrel delivers aromas of toasted coconut, vanilla, white wood and blond tobacco. It's a relatively light rum, with a hint of charred barrel dust and tangy orange peel.

With a little aeration, the rum is definitely light, allowing it to send out a few acidic, fruity peaks. Citrus fruits become more lively, with lemon joining orange.

On the palate, the rum progresses very slowly. Sweet spices like cinnamon are the first to emerge from the oak barrel. This is closely followed by vanilla, which lays a soft veil over the tongue. The rest of the cask passes discreetly over the taste buds.

The finish lets the cask express itself a little more, with a little roast and a hint of orange peel bitterness at the very end.

"A gentle, light approach to Barbadian style...".

Supplied as a sample, I chose this one at random (there was a long list of samples available).
