Clément Canne Bleue vintage 2021 is an AOC Martinique agricole rum eagerly awaited by fans every year. The bottle of this single-varietal rum is adorned with an elegant, festive glitter decoration.
After distillation in a copper Creole column at the Simon distillery, this cuvée is slowly reduced and brewed for 6 months before bottling. Blue cane develops aromas of orange blossom, sugar cane and tropical fruit.
To be enjoyed neat, as a traditional ti'punch or in cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is unmistakably that of an AOC Martinique agricultural rum, where the freshness of the cane predominates. The aromas are frank and powerful, with a touch of rusticity that keeps us close to the terroir. The intensity of the cane juice and the still-moist bagasse give us a clean, clear profile.
Aeration takes us into a tighter, sharper register, focusing on concentrated berries, tart cherries and exotic peppercorns. The rum then eases into velvety fruit notes of peach and apricot. The cane is enriched by all this and really gains in maturity.
On the palate, the attack is rather round and oily, then fresh cane quietly takes over the space. The ethereal, spicy hints tingle the taste buds, then melt into vegetal notes.
The finish is light and gently peppery, with a cane fiber that you chew for quite a while.

By comparison, the nose of Clément Canne Bleue 2020 was more focused on ripe, tender cane, with yeasty nuances, although aeration also gave it a tauter edge. On the palate, there was the same freshness and lightness, with fresh fruit and flowers. The finish, on the other hand, was a little drier, but it could be said that pepper was what they had in common.
