Dalmore 15 years 40°: Description and customer reviews

Dalmore 15 ans is a single malt whisky. It is aged in 2 stages:

  • 12 years in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels
  • then 3 years in 3 different types of sherry casks (Amoroso, Oloroso Apostoles and Matusalem)

Tasting notes from Thomas

The nose is very mellow and tends towards pastry. The sweetness of warm brioche mingles with pan-fried apples. At the same time, aromas of orange liqueur, chamomile and spices (ginger, white pepper). It's a very calm introduction to the wine.

The aeration tends towards orange blossom, and the buttery dimension becomes more palpable after a few minutes. Then, a little chocolate and hazelnut add their stone to the edifice. Finally, café au lait asserts itself with ardor.

The palate reflects the nose: poised, easy and balanced. The first part of the palate features brioche and pan-fried apples. Soon, however, spices bring their warmth (ginger, white pepper, cinnamon, cloves) before chocolate and orange zest make a timid appearance amid rather fatty nuts.

The finish is rather short, but fully restores the dried fruit and citrus zest. The spices previously perceived remain in the mouth, but are joined by a new flavor: strong coffee. This brings the sweetness of roasting but also a drier, woodier sensation.

" A sober whisky , somewhere between pastry and roasting, where the spices serve to give power..."

Bottle slightly chipped, but no effect on whisky
