Kill Devil 16 ans Guyana is a molasses rum from English Guyana. It is a single cask selected and bottled in Scotland by independent bottler Hunter Laing & Company Ltd.
The rum was distilled in December 1999 in an iron still by the renowned Uitvlugt distillery. It then underwent 16 long years of maturation in oak casks before being carefully bottled by hand without reduction, coloring or cold filtration. From this cask, a total of 299 numbered copies were issued worldwide.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, the islanders called their locally-produced distillates "Kill Devil".
Yoann's tasting notes
The nose of this rum is intriguing, and one that will keep you coming back to it time and time again. Warm spice notes waft from the glass, while nutmeg and a hint of cinnamon complement the more vanilla notes. A licorice edge emerges before giving way to wood with aeration. Citrus and tropical fruit notes bring a certain freshness to this nose.
The palate is smooth and creamy. The alcohol is warm but pleasant and well-balanced. A rich vanilla character takes center stage. It is surrounded by some spices and a distinct woody note. With aeration, the dampness of the wood gradually disappears, giving way to citrus notes.
The long finish maintains the focus of the end of the mouth on wood and citrus fruits.
