Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, it's a gourmet register of roasting that kicks in, with caramel, toasted wood and coffee, all seasoned with a touch of molasses. Between the barrel staves, we perceive a rum with a beating heart, swelling with ripe fruit.
With aeration, the rum gains in intensity and the woodiness takes on a very concentrated, vibrant character, worthy of an expression of this age. It may seem like a higher degree, but in a good way; in other words, the expressiveness is there for all to see.
On the palate, the roasted character is evident, with a measured roundness that provides immediate balance. Caramel-coated toasted pecans bring a lovely intensity of flavor to the mid-palate, then the typically vanilla- and nougatine-tinged American oak melts into deliciousness.
The rather sweet finish is imbued with soft spices and toasted wood.
"A woody, roasted concentration that brings a beautiful intensity, but also a very round and accessible side..."
