Long before it became a rum brand, Coloma was a famous coffee-producing hacienda in the heart of Colombia. The Constain family, owners of the brand, also produce a coffee liqueur, also under the Coloma brand.

After a failed first attempt in Ecuador, where the law made it easier to produce rum, and a relaxation of the Colombian position on spirits, Alberto Constain Medina, son of the founder of the Coloma brand, distilled his rum on the hacienda for the first time in 2005. But he's not alone: he's surrounded by two renowned Colombian "maestras roneras", Sandra Reategui and Judith Ramirez. Read less
