Lazy Dodo is a traditional rum produced by the great Grays distillery, which also produces the delicious New Grove with its quince paste aromas.
This is a blend of molasses rums aged in new American oak barrels in the New Grove cellars. Some of the rums in the blend are 12 years old.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is dominated by citrus notes. Orange peel, lemon juice, candied oranges: you can feel their bitterness as well as the sweetness of their juice. Spices naturally join the mix, for a little shrubbiness. The orange zest expands, lending its bitterness and freshness.
The palate is very smooth, with a delicate attack. Citrus fruits are still present, of course, even if they give way to a slightly toasty woodiness. The bitterness resurfaces first, followed by citrus flavors, linked to a hint of acidity, quickly overlaid by sweet touches.
The finish is a little more roasted, with coffee and burnt molasses.
"A rum that passes citrus in detail, with roundness and freshness..."
