New Grove Double Cask Moscatel 47.7°: Description and customer reviews

New Grove Double Cask Moscatel was first aged in French oak for 7 years, before finishing its ageing period in a Moscatel cask for a further year. Thanks to this original finish, this rum offers very fresh aromas.

New Grove Moscatel is a sure bet, having won the gold medal at the 2016 Rhum Fest in Paris for the "innovation of the year" category.

Laurent's tasting notes

Its color is between amber and caramel.

On the nose, it's greedy and complex. We've got lots of aromas coming together, and it's not easy to distinguish one from the other. Baked caramel, cinnamon, vanilla, pepper and apple share the lead, followed closely by walnut and licorice. Well worth spending some time with.

On the palate, a very slight sweetness emerges, accentuating the gourmand impression perceived on the nose. Notes of honey, licorice and wood dominate. There's also a hint of herbs, while a spicy sensation warms the mouth a little.

The finish is long and relatively pleasant in its simplicity. Indeed, the two main players here are vanilla and wood. Pepper and nuts take a back seat.

If you like it, we recommend :

  • Another interesting finish, with more of a wood feel and rather less power consumption...
  • A "classic" unfinished version, a little older...
