Masam MCJB Jamaica Rum 2008-2021 57,8° : Description and customer reviews

Masam 2008 MCJB Jamaica Rum is an exceptional rum selected by the Italian independent bottler. Formerly run by Silvano Samaroli, it is now his wife, Maryse Samaroli, who produces bottlings paying tribute to him.

This is a blend of Jamaican rums distilled in 2008 by Hampden, in column and still. The rum was then aged for 13 years in oak casks in Scotland.

This unique cask was bottled on site in 2021 at its natural degree. It produced 259 superb bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, it's a pleasure to rediscover the funky soul of Jamaica, with a fruity solvent brooding over an exotic explosion. The ripe, almost candied banana is spiked with sweet spices, lending relief to its mellow sweetness. The heart of the rum is heavy, with notes of very ripe exotic fruit, enhanced by a hint of soy sauce.

Aeration and rest bring a pastry-like aspect, tranquil and balanced. We settle comfortably on a kind of caramelized baba, soaked in a well-flavored rum, full of exotic candied fruits.

On the palate, the rum is very smooth and balanced, with a hint of copper and astringency typical of its tradition. Very ripe exotic fruits are set off by roasted nuts, giving it an oxidized air, which then attracts more roasting, bordering on molasses-tinged coffee.

The finish is fruity and exotic, with hints of jackfruit and very ripe pineapple, and a touch of acid from fermentation.

"A smooth, balanced rum, despite a relatively high degree, with a typically Jamaican character..."

  • A more pastry-like, less fruity profile for this Demerara...
  • Another well-balanced, softer Jamaican...
