This 7-year-old rum was produced in Guadeloupe by the Montebello distillery. This cuvée is the first to join the collection named "La Rencontre".
This is a range of finishes designed to create a crossroads between two worlds and two areas of expertise.
For this first cuvée, the rum was distilled from pure sugarcane juice in 2015. It was casked in August 2015, then transferred to 3 barrels from the Menhirs distillery. These casks previously held Eddu Silver buckwheat Breton whisky. This finish lasted no less than 188 days.
Bottling in September 2022 was carried out gross de fût, and resulted in 2,240 numbered bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose is extremely candied and gourmand, like a cane juice delicacy encrusted with pear and baked apple. The woodiness is also very mellow, so behind a heavy veil of vanilla, we discover a soft bread dough exhaling cereal aromas.
Aeration adds to the velvety, even syrupy aspect of this nose. Fruits such as mirabelle plum, pear and very ripe grapes melt into a honey-sprinkled sweet spice.
On the palate, the mirabelle plum jam is set in a very buttery, very sweet caramel, a bit like the one that coats popcorns. As for the rhum agricole, it sends out a few bursts of lemony freshness, perfectly balancing the whole on the mid-palate. The cane then expresses itself with lovely patina notes, softly vegetal and peppery.
The finish is lightly woody, with a hint of cocoa and a few wisps of toasted nuts.
