Montebello Cuvée Prestige 24 ans Vintage 1982 42° : Description and customer reviews

This prestige cuvée was barrel-aged in 1982 for 24 years, then bottled after a 42° reduction.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is very rich from the outset, and it's a pleasure to rediscover the deep, exotic Guadeloupean style of candied fruit tinged with animal notes. The cane here is exceptionally ripe, with notes of cooked apples and pears, Armagnac-style prunes, dried fruit and very ripe citrus... Licorice and pits are also present, but the ripe, fruity cane remains the one that continues to fascinate us the most.

With aeration, the rum expands and swells with increasingly thick, tropical aromas. Apples are still present, but now show an oxidized side that leads us towards cider, or a sweet calvados. Blond tobacco, mellow tannins and dried fruit give a little more elegance to this rum, whose deliciousness is almost regressive.

On the palate, the texture is more fluid than might be expected. The rum is easy to drink, almost light. The cane is beautiful, ripe, intermingled with tobacco, leather and dried fruit. The whole world of pastry then takes over the palate, with candied fruit, sweet strawberries, mild spices, amaretto-style almonds, candied cherries, rum-drenched raisins...

The finish is that of an "old-fashioned" rum, aromatic and pastry-like.

"A great delicacy, and a perfect example of a Guadeloupean style that straddles the line between agricultural and molasses..."
