Montebello Zenga White 60°: Description and customer reviews

Montebello Zenga Blanc is an agricultural rum bearing the Guadeloupe Geographical Indication. The name Zenga evokes the tradition of cockfighting, which is deeply rooted in the West Indies, particularly on the island of Papillon. The Zenga rooster is the strongest in the barnyard, and the most respected by his fellow roosters. Montebello pays tribute to its fighting spirit and power with this cuvée.

Distilled in January 2019, the rum benefited from a long brewing and slow reduction, before being bottled in October 2020.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, a well-rounded, moist cane immediately settles in the hollow of our nostrils. The rum is warm, thick and very tropical. The cane's fiber is full of sugar and almost candied, its mellow flesh sometimes spiked with pepper.

The aeration gives a splendid effect to this rum, which is more gourmand than ever and truly irresistible. The cane is mellow, brioche-like, entering the realm of bread dough, of something truly dense and gourmand. Of course, this doesn't mean that the rum falls asleep: the intensity is there, and the pepper is not forgotten.

On the palate, after an attack of fermented cane juice, the rum spreads out and evaporates warmly on the palate. Once again, this is done in a devilishly humid, tropical atmosphere, and the vapors that line the mouth deposit a plump rum. It's still mellow and comfortable, as you savor a tender nougat or even a marron glacé.

The finish is typically agricultural and not lacking in gourmandise. Lime zest, cane and pepper stick to the palate for a long time.

"A superb rhum agricole, quite simply, with irresistible gourmandise and roundness..."

    A real treat!
It was the bottle that I tasted, not the sample, fortunately! Already the bottle didn't last long 😄
It's a real treat. The 60° doesn't burn at all, less than a Bologna at 55 for example. A powerful yet delicate fragrance and taste.
I can and will recommend it.

On the nose 👃🏻: the cane is generously sweet. It's like baked sugar sticking to the sides of the glass, almost marzipan, with a hint of tropical fruit close to mango. Aeration brings some peppery notes and others a little more pastry-like, like brioche bread. It's a rich cane that captures our full attention, and we're in for a treat.

On the palate 👅: it offers a lovely creaminess and greediness (just a little less than a Bielle Canne Genou Cassé). Here too one thinks of cooked sugar or sugar paste, and tropical fruit to a lesser extent. The cane is juicy and moist. The intensity is fine, with pepper spreading quietly across the palate on subsequent sips.

The finish is long, with that gray pepper settling in a little more, I'd even say it's spicy. Then it switches to a more vegetal note with cane bark. Note that it dries out the mouth a little after a while 👌

Verdict ⚡️: without being the most gourmand I've tasted in this category, it already offers a lot and is clearly at the top of the range! It's a real pleasure to savor it slowly, with the 60% delivering a lovely complexity both on the nose and on the palate. A superb discovery for me 🥰

Product meets my expectations. Sweet and intense scent of fresh Cannes. Slightly peppery. That little taste of pure butter madeleine and at the same time a little touch of the Marine type that makes me think of being on the open sea. It literally won me over and transported me on a sailboat off the Caribbean.
    Magnificent!

  4. Customer

Quite pleasant and smooth on the palate
