Neptune Gold Rum is a molasses rum from the Foursquare distillery on the island of Barbados.
This is a blend of 3, 5 and 8 year-old rums distilled in column and pot stills, aged in American white oak barrels that have previously contained bourbon. The rum is cold-filtered using a special process, then reduced with sweet mineral water.
The name Neptune refers to the Roman god of fresh water and the sea, whose portrait appears on the bottle label.
Yoann's tasting notes
The nose is immediately enticing. Slightly shy notes of banana gradually emerge to explode before our nostrils. A fat, gourmand vanilla bean transforms these fruit notes into a tropical, slightly pastry-like register. This vanilla is accompanied by sweet spices. With time, a light woodiness appears, along with timid notes of black pepper.
The palate is bold and fluid at the same time. The first sip gives the impression of eating a vanilla cream lightly spiced with black pepper. The American oak barrel, which previously contained bourbon, is present but remains in the background. The woodiness melts into lightly toasted coconut notes. Milk chocolate appears at times.
The finish remains close to the palate with a cocoa note. A hint of exotic fruit and a touch of brioche punctuate the tasting experience.
