Père Labat Blanc Bio 60°: Description and customer reviews

Père Labat Blanc Bio is an agricultural rum from Madeira-Galantina, produced in a limited series by the Poisson distillery.

This rum benefits from a long fermentation of 5 days (compared to the usual 3 days), and distillation in a copper Creole column. It is made from organic cane grown by hand on specific plots on the estate.

This special version is 60°. The result is a more powerful and aromatic rum than the 52° version. A total of 360 bottles have been released.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is that of a rhum agricole de terroir, frank and natural, embracing all the aromas of vesou, including the more rustic notes of its fermentation. There are steamed vegetables, a hint of iodine and rich, concentrated, almost resinous cane.

With aeration, the cane finds a beautiful harmony, integrating all its aromas and facets. It's still intense and concentrated, but now full-bodied, natural and vibrant. Its vegetal side is spiked with pepper and tinged with a hint of citrus.

On the palate, the cane surprises with a unique, complex character of green pepper, candied citrus, steamed artichoke, velvety aromatics and stone fruit. The rum takes on a pastry-like character that is relatively unprecedented for a white agricole, with a lovely firmness coupled with a rather oily texture.

The finish returns to rather rustic, herbaceous, vegetal and peppery notes of fermentation.

"Quite a character for this uncompromising local rum with a unique identity..."
