Rum Artesanal Clément 2015 5 ans 70cl 55,5° : Description and customer reviews

Rum Artesanal Clément 2015 is an aged agricultural rum from the French West Indies. It was selected by independent bottler Rum Artesanal in the cellars of Habitation Clément in Martinique.

This rum was aged for 5 years and 9 months in an American oak barrel bearing the number 20100270, in a tropical climate. It was bottled brut de fût, without being cold-filtered. This unique cask produced 268 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, the power of this rhum agricole sends a cloud of nuts flying over the glass, like the first glimmer of fireworks. In the density of this cloud, we also find pepper, which, when drawn out, takes us right up to the fresh cane.

Aeration adds layers of complexity, first sweet spices, then dried fruit. These bind with the cane to form a more pastry-like side, finely peppered and sprinkled with nutmeg.

On the palate, the cane pepper imposes a rustic, authentic, fundamentally agricultural character. It naturally gives way to a cane juice that's full of life and energy, asserting itself on the mid-palate with a herbaceous, slightly minty aspect. The woodiness adds an elegant patina, also rather fresh. The oak expresses itself naturally, spontaneously, with a certain youthfulness.

The finish is long, and gains in thickness with the discovery of a few dates and dried figs.

"A well struck balance in terms of age and power; proof of the richness of the agricultural palette..."

Only one bottle ordered. Lucky to find a second at another French site.
