Rum Artesanal Guyana Uitvlugt 1991 30 ans 61,7° : Description and customer reviews

Rum Artesanal Uitvlugt 1991 is a molasses rum distilled in Guyana at the Uitvlugt distillery. This distillery closed its doors for good in 1999.

The rum was distilled in pot-stills in December 1991. It was aged the same year.

This cask number 70 was selected and bottled by independent bottler Rum Artesanal in July 2022 without reduction. It produced 236 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is initially driven by a profile that is both medicinal and metallic, highly singular and original. The tannins and fiber of the cask seem to have yielded all the resin they could hold, and this is expressed with a vegetal freshness, underlined by copper.

With aeration, this vegetal, fresh, medicinal character remains. Its concentration makes it luminous, shining like a metal blade. A few granulated spices flesh out this profile with rest, and we find caraway, cumin and coriander seeds, as in a raw, fresh curry.

On the palate, the first impression is of a herbal brandy or monastic liqueur, with a few drops of resinous sap. This almost mountainous side gives way to a burnt, coppery distillate, with full-bodied flavors of nougatine that's a little overcooked. The charred cask still hints at some tannins, and these open up again to fresher notes of anise, licorice molasses and menthol.

The finish continues with lime zest, curry, and a few shavings of sharpened pencil.

"A rum so old, so concentrated, that its original profile is completely transformed..."

If you like it, we recommend :

  • A typical, full-bodied Port Mourant...
  • An old, concentrated Demerara, but still fruity...
