Rum Artesanal Jamaica 1982 40 ans 45,1° : Description and customer reviews

Rum Artesanal Jamaica 1982 is a 40-year-old Jamaican molasses rum bearing the MRJB mark. This single cask is based on a blend of rums distilled in July 1982 in column and pot-still.

This cask number 17 was selected and bottled in July 2022 without reduction by independent bottler Rum Artesanal, based in Bad Bevensen, Germany. It produced 236 bottles.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is highly concentrated, requiring a good rest before tasting. The rum has spent 40 years in casks, so the least you can do is give it a quarter of an hour to get ready. After that, we discover a beautiful basket of fruits, tropical or not, but in any case well concentrated. As in a marmalade where the skins and pits have been left behind, these fruits have retained their relief and character, while at the same time confecting amply on themselves.

With aeration, we delve deeper into the barrel fibers and the aging process. The tannins in the heart of the wood are laid bare; green and fresh, resinous, almost medicinal. Pits and sweet spices form a candied side, which could be described as pastry-like if it weren't so firm and concentrated.

The palate is smooth, easy and fluid, and quickly closes in on the taste buds with slightly astringent tannins, accompanied by a burnt, mineral, coppery sensation. This is the full-bodied character of Jamaican rums, with gunpowder, sulfur, toasted rye bread, scorched spices and lightly salted molasses. On the mid-palate, dried and candied fruits, such as prunes and brandied cherries, gently crush the palate.

The finish is spicy, tannic, full of molasses-spread toast, very dark cocoa, with a nuance of coffee and fruity, acidic notes.

"All the fuller-bodied aspects of rum are present, completely melted and amalgamated by time..."
