Saint Lucia 1931 1st edition is an exceptional rum produced in honor of the 80th anniversary of the inauguration of the Mabouya valley distillery. The main events in its history are represented on the label and the box in which the rum is presented.
This traditional rum, resulting from the mixture of several vintages distilled between 1999 and 2004, was aged in white oak barrels. The blend then matured for three months so that the aromas harmonize.
Each bottle of this rum, produced in only 6,000 copies, is individually numbered and constitutes an interesting purchase for a collector. especially since it is mainly the bottles of later editions that we find today.
Laurent's tasting notes
Its color is caramel and almost amber.
On the nose, caramel is the first characteristic that jumps to the nostrils. But Saint Lucia 1931 does not stop there, medicinal notes are also present. Other aromas appear later: coffee, pepper, tobacco and orange. An interesting and complex nose.
In the mouth, the medicinal and caramel markers are still present, but the latter becomes cooked caramel. The woodiness is still there in the form of tobacco, and the orange is making a small place.
The finish is moderately long and we remain mainly on the cooked caramel (which reminded me of certain rums from Guadeloupe). The tobacco takes up more space, and a tannic side also appears.
