The Origin unveils the raw material that serves as the basis for all Wagemut PX-Casks: pure Foursquare rum, with no additives whatsoever. Produced at the Foursquare distillery in Barbados for Wagemut Produktion GmbH (Nicolas Kröger), this rum was aged for 10 years in 100% ex-Bourbon casks under a tropical climate, before being bottled directly at cask strength, without reduction with water, without Pedro Ximenez Sherry and without any additives.
Unlike the PX-Cask and its Cask Strength version, both enriched with a Pedro Ximenez Sherry cask finish (which classifies them as “rum-based spirits” according to European regulations), The Origin remains a rum in the fullest sense of the term: dry, woody and powerful, revealing the Foursquare style in its most authentic and concentrated form.
Bottled at 64.1% ABV, The Origin is a unique, one-off edition designed for enthusiasts already familiar with the PX-Cask who wish to discover the pure Foursquare character within. It will also delight all fans of Foursquare distillery rums.
Jérémie's tasting notes
On the nose: Vanilla oak quickly emerges above the glass, soon joined by delicate hints of coconut. As you approach, the fruity notes become more prominent, with currants, toasted coconut, and nuts, accompanied by a touch of candied peach. The whole evolves into a rich world of caramel and vanilla honey. A few more subtle spices appear in the background, notably pepper and nutmeg. Over time, the profile develops notes of cocoa powder. The rum's strength is noticeable on the nose, with a pronounced alcoholic presence.
On the palate: The attack is crisp and dry, driven by roasted oak that releases notes of melted caramel and vanilla. The chocolate gradually evolves towards nuances of milk chocolate, while citrus fruits are accompanied by black pepper. Notes of hazelnut and toasted almond complete the picture, along with coconut. The tasting finishes with a slight bitterness, echoing the citrus, cocoa, and molasses.
The finish: Of medium length, it lingers with notes of sweet spices and roasting, accompanied by a slightly smoky woodiness.
