Dormoy is first and foremost an important family in the history of the West Indies, arriving from Burgundy as early as 1750. They acquired the Habitation Bois-Debout in Capesterre, Guadeloupe, where they cultivated sugarcane to feed their sugar mill, as well as their distillery, which ceased operations in 1965. In Martinique, she now owns the family-run La Favorite rum distillery, which runs entirely on steam. G&P Dormoy (Geneviève et Pierre Dormoy) was founded in 1974 to market a traditional punch-coco recipe. Other recipes soon followed, including other punches, syrups and jams.

Traditional Dormoy syrups perpetuate ancestral recipes from the West Indies, such as battery syrup ("sirop la cuite" in Reunion Island) used in cooking and pastry-making, but also in ti'punch. Cane sugar syrup is a classic in cocktails, as is its vanilla version. Last but not least, ginger syrup is used in both traditional West Indian ti 'punch and modern mixology. Read less
