Santero rum

Santero rum takes its name from Santeria, the religion brought to Cuba by the Yoruba, an ethnic group mainly from what is now Nigeria.

It is produced in Cuba, at the Paraiso distillery in the province of Sancti Spiritus. Founded in 1804, Paraiso began distilling in 1944. It produces light rums, neutral spirits and, above all, aguardiente (cane honey brandy) to enrich its own blends and those of numerous customers, including the giant Havana Club.

The distillery has been producing its own yeasts since 1957, and also sells them to other players in the rum world.

Santero rum is a blend of light molasses and aguardiente rums, aged for 7 years in ex-bourbon barrels made of American white oak.

The range comprises a 3-year-old white rum filtered to remove color, a 5-year-old Añejo and a 7-year-old Añejo Reserva. Read less
