Thursday, May 26, 2016: Martinique came to Paris for an evening and on this occasion, the Maison La Mauny introduced us to the "Martinique art of living". The key words of the evening: warmth, conviviality, gastronomy and of course rum and its cocktails.
The Rhum Attitude team was able to participate in a mixology session with different rums from the La Mauny range. This workshop was led by Jean Philippe, the La Mauny brand ambassador, supported by a Parisian bartender.
Once the presentation of the rums (50° white agricultural rum and the amber agricultural rum) and the raw materials for the cocktails was complete, we began developing two cocktails offered by the house: the “Tit Abricot” and the “La Mauny Marmelade” .
After mixing all the ingredients and vigorously shaking our preparation, we were able to taste our cocktails and discuss the final result together, all in a good mood and an excellent atmosphere.
The Little Apricot
All you need to do is crush a few mint leaves in a shaker (between 4 and 8 depending on your taste), then add using a measuring cup (or by eye for the more experienced) 2cl of freshly squeezed lime juice, 1cl of cane sugar syrup, 2 dashes of Angostura Bitter , a teaspoon of apricot jam (because yes you can put jam in a cocktail and the result is rather surprising) and finally 4cl of La Mauny 50° white rum (a good cane juice nose as we like it). Shake everything with ice cubes and serve in a Tumbler type glass.
You can then add a little finishing touch by adding a long sprig of mint to decorate the glass.
A simple, good and easy cocktail to reproduce at home with friends. Refreshing and slightly bitter thanks to the marriage between lime and apricot jam, it is an excellent cocktail idea for this summer. You can also replace the mint leaves with basil leaves (curiously the molecules of basil and those of apricot are quite close which makes the marriage successful).
La Mauny Marmalade
Second cocktail presented during the tasting workshop.
In a shaker, mix 4cl of La Mauny amber rum, a teaspoon of orange jam, 2cl of lime juice, again freshly squeezed, 1 or 2cl of cinnamon syrup (according to your preference), a few ice cubes, and shake vigorously.
You can decorate your glass with one or two cinnamon sticks and a lemon slice.
The choice of La Mauny amber rum is not neutral: a little rounder than the white, it is not too marked by wood due to its “small” 18 months spent in oak barrels which gave it some light notes of vanilla while retaining the aromas of sugar cane typical of agricultural whites .
Result: a fruity and delicious cocktail that will give you pleasure!
Conclusion
A big thank you to Maison La Mauny for organizing this “tropicool” event that made us want to return to this little corner of paradise that is Martinique…
