A.H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Frogman Conventus Ranae 60° : Description and customer reviews

A.H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Frogman Conventus Ranae is a new edition of the Frogman vintage, dedicated to the soldiers of the Danish army. More specifically, it is a tribute to the Conventus Ranae, an association of "Frogman" veterans who fought against attacks at sea.

This old rum-based spirit is bottled at 60%, to mark the 60th anniversary of the Frogman corps.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is deeply pastry-like, puffing up like buttery cookie dough. We grated some orange peel, then added more candied citrus peel, before sprinkling the glass with a few pinches of sweet spices.

With aeration, our cookie is a little more cooked. The butter has caramelized nicely around the edges, like a rich crumble. The fruit is concentrated in a very sweet syrup, enriched with a five-spice blend.

The palate is rather powerful on the attack, but the sweetness of the rum immediately balances it out. In the very first moments, there are hints of a fruity rum, relatively full-bodied and filled with exotic fruits. Then our cookie settles comfortably on the palate, spreading its buttery, cereal and chocolate flavors.

The finish is as sweet as vanilla orange peel syrup.

"A more powerful version of the A.H. Riise style, made very accessible by a marked sweetness..."
