Amrut Two Indies Rum 42,8° : Description and customer reviews

This Two Indies Rum is a blend of rums from the Indian lands of the state of Karnataka, distilled and casked by Amrut, and rums from the Caribbean (Jamaica, Guyana and Barbados). It's a link between India and the West Indies.

Nico's tasting notes

Summary: heady - tropical - ripe fruit - damp wood - toasted wood - caramel

The nose is powerful and heady. The atmosphere is humid and fragrant, with a good dose of vanilla and, above all, wet wood. The whole appears relatively sweet, with a concentrated, oily caramel/vanilla duo. These prominent aromas are complemented by a rather heavy rum base with aromas of olive and smoke.
The sweetness is confirmed with aeration, while the heavy, past-tense and very tropical/moist side becomes ever more pronounced. Overripe exotic fruit mingles with milk chocolate, and you really feel the sweltering humidity of the tropics. The heavy rum base becomes ever more prominent, almost reminiscent of Jamaican rum over time. The more classic notes of caramel, wood and vanilla return as the rum settles a little.

On the palate, the attack is smooth and still marked by a very exotic, tropical fruitiness. The rum is lighter than on the nose, even a little watery, and you start to breathe a little more as the air seems to clear. The toasty oak develops hints of nuts, it is toasty and its spicy tannins have caramelized in contact with the fire.

The finish is therefore a little smoky, in the image of this cask that we imagine to be heavily toasted, and the rum fades away on a rather light impression.

"The nose takes us into a tropical rainforest, but the palate shows a lighter, more open side..."
