Like all the whiskies in the Bellevoye range, Bellevoye Noir is produced entirely in France.
This peated triple malt is a blend of 3 whiskies, each from a different French distillery. Each has been aged for 5 years in its original cellar.
After blending in the Charente, Bellevoye Noir spends a year in new French oak barrels that have been toasted beforehand.
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose seems quite soft despite the presence of peat. Indeed, there's a light iodized smoke with clearer cold tobacco scents. However, there's also a slightly drying counterpart: licorice, burnt wood, incense, coffee, vegetation (dried herbs, mint, sage) and spices (gray pepper, clove). In addition, there are sweeter scents such as apricot (fresh and dry) and brown sugar. A compact aromatic block.
The palate remains moderately full-bodied but well supported by peat (smoke, dried herbs), giving licorice, peppermint and burnt wood. A generous bitterness develops in the mid-palate, reviving its more vegetal, even floral (carnation, lilac) character. However, a touch of roasted malt, brown sugar, lemon and clove come through. The freshness of mint provides a welcome breeze.
The finish is rather lively, echoing the flavors described above. Licorice and smoke mingle with burnt wood and cut herbs. A soft smoky note (wood, tobacco), a hint of lemon and coffee beans remain on the palate.
" A peaty whisky witha clearly woody,roastedprofile...".
