Capovilla Apricot Du Vesuve 49°: Description and customer reviews

Since 1986, genius distiller Gianni Capovilla has been at the helm of his Italian company. Initially passionate about wine and grappa, Gianni Capovilla became interested in improving alcohol production techniques at every stage. From distillation to reduction and preservation, his aim was to obtain a distillate of superior quality. He even registered several patents at the end of his research. In addition to the art of distillation, Gianni Capovilla has a passion for fruit. His hobby? All the rare or endangered varieties.
He picks his fruit - which he uses to make his wines and spirits - all over Italy and as far afield as Romania.

To create this eau-de-vie, Gianni Capovilla selected apricots from the Campania region of Italy.
Distilled from wild apricots, this fruit brandy is a testament to his artisanal genius.
Each bottle of Capovilla Abricot du Vésuve is laced, waxed and sealed by hand. The handwritten label serves as the fruit's identity card: its variety, its year of harvest.
Capovilla Abricot du Vésuve is an exceptional eau-de-vie.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose, of rare elegance, focuses above all on the stone. From a floral and gently vegetal wing, the eau-de-vie takes flight towards light, airy skies, with more acidic fruit and an almost milky roundness.

Aeration reduces all this to jam, with a precision that keeps the intensity of the fruit, without excessive roundness or heady power. Some yellow fruit joins the apricot later on, with peach marmalade coming to mind.

The palate is powerful in the aromatic sense, but also in the sense that it takes hold of the taste buds in a rather warm wave. Of course, there's no burn, although there's a nice presence. The sweet fruit juices are slightly caramelized, or rather jammy. Mirabelle plum has joined apricot and peach, and these fruits have been rubbed with a handful of garrigue herbs.

The finish is very gourmand, as the kernel brings a pastry-like atmosphere of bitter almond.

"A unique experience, at the heart of the fruit's DNA..."
