Citadelle Gin is the essential French gin. It is made by the Ferrand cognac house from spring water, wheat and 19 plants and spices.
Tasting notes from Thomas
The nose takes us into familiar territory, with gin basics well represented. A cluster of aromas conjures up juniper berries, citrus notes (bergamot, lemon) and sweet spices (nutmeg, white pepper). After a few moments, it becomes fatter despite the more dynamic presence of peppery scents and the appearance of a little anise. Finally, floral notes of lily and pansy stand out, making the whole more ethereal.
The palate is quite lively, echoing the spirit of the nose. Indeed, the opening is rather floral (lily, magnolia) with juniper berries and a good dose of lemon (zest and candied). The power is there, and we switch to a good dose of lemon combined with spices (cinnamon, pepper). Straightforward but well-balanced on the palate.
The finish is rather long, a pure extension of the palate. A hint of coriander appears, but citrus and juniper take the lead. A slightly bitter, peppery citrus flavor lingers on the palate for quite some time.
" A gin for lovers of efficient classicism, lulled by citrus , spices and flowers. .."
