Dzama Maki Ambré is a molasses rum from Madagascar.
After blending rums from several of the island's distilleries, it spent 1 year in oak barrels.
The Vidzar company has packaged it in this pretty red raffia bottle.
It's a light rum used mainly to make tasty cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose opens with a nougatine of well-roasted, even coffee-roasted nuts. The well-burned oak barrel has undoubtedly left its mark on this young rum. The orange peel was also put to the flame, as was the coconut. Next to the wood fire, the cigar was left in a corner, until it was almost completely consumed and its ash settled like a large caterpillar.
The palate is very smooth, with aromas as roasted as the nose would suggest. The well-cooked caramel coats a flambéed banana, while the muscovado sugar is just starting to cook. The rum core is light, and the sugar sensation is quite delicate. The roasted walnuts add a little substance and grain.
The finish continues with caramelized pecans and vanilla.
"A young vanilla and caramelized rum, with a hint of nuts..."
