Elements 8 Gold Rum 40°: Description and customer reviews

Elements 8 Gold is a blend of 10 different aged rums at least 6 years old.

These rums were distilled in copper pot stills and column stills, then aged in "Buffalo Trace" bourbon barrels. At the end of this 6-year process, filtered rainforest water was added to obtain a 40° reduction before bottling.

Nico's tasting notes

Summary: round, pastry-like and exotic on the nose - bitter and vegetal on the palate - concentrated

The nose is gourmand, with a roundness of ripe fruit and marzipan. The profile is rather heavy, with banana and other exotic fruits, in the manner of a buttery, round Jamaican rum. The vegetal side is brought out by sweet resin and herbal tea with verbena and honey. Rather expressive for its 40%, it is pleasant, easy and greedy.
Aeration reinforces the rum's heavy side, but it remains widely accessible, well dosed. Rather than offering extreme concentration, it leans towards a delicate pastry aspect, with discreet almonds and cherries. It is less vegetal than at first, leaving more room for yeast and cream.

The palate is very soft and round, with ripe exotic fruits that are very enveloping. You don't expect the big vegetal puff that follows. A marked bitterness enters the scene, with a vegetal sweetness backed by a coppery edge. This striking phase gives way to a concentration of oxidized plum brandy, Zan-style black licorice and a touch of caramel.

The finish retains a sensation of bitterness, with the added bonus of dry oak and a hint of fermentation.

"This rum has a personality all its own, playing on several registers, from the most generous to the most bitter..."

    color: white wine

On the nose, it's immediately clear that this is a molasses rum. Not very intense, with hints of brown sugar and honey. Then come light woody and smoky notes, probably due to Guyana molasses or bourbon fut. An elegant nose.

On the palate, the honey is straightforward. Vanilla makes its entrance. Then comes caramelized molasses sugar, even a little burnt, creating a gourmet taste. Finally, there's a fruity note (more yellow fruit).

The finish is on honey and cane sugar. It is long but of medium intensity. In addition, it should be noted that the greediness of the palate is counterbalanced by the dryness of this rum.

A rather gourmand and well-balanced rum. However, it lacks the complexity to be a very good rum.
