Grosperrin Le Roch X.O. Borderies 42°: Description and customer reviews

This Grosperrin Le Roch XO is the result of blending cognacs exclusively from the Borderies region.

This cru is made up of 3 main terroirs, and its history is closely linked to that of the town of Cognac. It's also the smallest of the crus, accounting for around 5% of the Charente vineyards, and old cognacs are much rarer here than in the other crus.

The cognacs were matured in the Grosperrin cellars, under the watchful eye of Guilhem Grosperrin.

Nico's tasting notes

On the nose, an appetizing sweetness immediately emerges, with a clear, sunny, fruity profile. Granny Smith apples add a touch of tart freshness, while pears turn to something more velvety.

Aeration gives us access to a brandy that seems older, with rancio, prunes and walnuts. Some acidity remains, providing a perfect balance between autumnal and more summery notes.

On the palate, a slight astringency introduces nuts and pits, as well as apples and pears that are still a little green. All this is then covered by a syrup of riper, yellower, slightly sweet fruit. The delicate texture and flavors make for a very easy and pleasant tasting experience, punctuated by subtle sweet spices, almonds, slightly oxidized apples and citrus.

The finish is enhanced by a hint of herbs and grape marc.

"A fine balance between elegance and gourmandise, for a simple and pleasant tasting experience..."

Well-aromatic, fruity and slightly liqueur-like. The finish is always fruity, warming the taste buds like pepper or ginger.
