Hampden Fresh 42° is a white rum produced by the renowned Hampden Estate distillery, located in the parish of Trelawny, Jamaica. This expression showcases the distillery's traditional expertise through a blend of four of the eight marks produced. Bottled at 42% ABV, this rum offers an approachable interpretation of the Jamaican style—more commonly bottled at 63% ABV—while preserving the Hampden identity.
Made from molasses , it benefits from a fermentation process involving indigenous yeasts , dunder – distillation residues traditionally reused in fermentation – as well as cane vinegar and muck , a fermentation medium rich in organic matter. This traditional method contributes to the distinctive character of Hampden rums and reflects expertise passed down through generations.
Distillation takes place in a pot still equipped with a double retort, a configuration emblematic of the distillery. The term "Fresh," used in Hampden's vocabulary, traditionally refers to the distillate as it comes out of the still, before any potential aging in casks.
