This traditional molasses rum has been selected and blended by British merchant Berry Bros.
Distilled in Nicaragua in 2000, it was aged for 12 years in oak barrels.
Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rum is simple but well-balanced, and far removed from the stereotypes conveyed by Nicaragua's most famous brand. The heart is resolutely light, but aging has allowed the wood to diffuse its notes of vanilla, blond caramel and tobacco. A light coconut note then carries us towards nuts and roasting. Simple and effective.
As the rum passes over the rim of the glass and begins to dry, the charm takes over and the rum becomes beautifully mellow. Forget light rum, the tenderness of the cask takes all and regales us with its cottony wood, passed through butterscotch, tobacco and vanilla.
The palate is on the same wavelength, very pleasant and greedy. The rum keeps its rather light body, hovering on the palate without ever falling back. However, the wood continues to detail the extent of its talent, with a tender white fiber, tobacco, vanilla, coconut and caramel. As simple and effective as ever.
The finish gives way to more simply roasted notes, which this time leave this light rum a little bereft.
