Rasta Morris Bielle 2006-2019 is an agricultural rum from Marie-Galante selected by Belgian bottler Asta Morris. This 13-year-old rum was column distilled in May 2006. It was aged in a barrel that had previously contained bourbon, until August 2019. It was finally shipped to Europe for bottling in November of the same year.
Note that the bottler was only able to acquire 40 liters of this cask, which explains the very limited edition of this brut de fût, only 56 bottles.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, a greedy, jam-covered woodiness greets us with open arms. We imagine a rum baba with a golden, caramelized surface, glistening with a touch of apricot jam.
Aeration allows the rum to open up completely, with yellow fruit jams now having a field day. They are encouraged and supported by a honeyed structure, elegant sweet spices, and a powerful but completely harmonious woodiness.
The palate is tasty and aromatic from the outset, with a waxed woodiness and tannins that melt endlessly, stretching into stewed, roasted, jammy, sticky fruit. The Bielle style is presented here in an imposing way, without any aggressiveness, but with a most pleasing concentration of aromas.
The finish is woody, somewhat powdery and chocolatey, with some sweet spices wandering across the taste buds.
"A very fine Bielle with extremely jammy, concentrated flavors..."
