ReimonenQ Vieux Première Cuvée Cœur de Chauffe 40° : Description and customer reviews

The freshly pressed cane juice is fermented. Reimonenq then distills it to produce a white "cœur de chauffe" rum from which the "heads" and "tails" of the distillate have been removed. The rum is then aged in oak barrels for 3 years, during which time it acquires its color and woody, spicy aromas.

It can be drunk neat as a tasting rum, or as a "ti vieux" with a little lime and brown sugar crushed with a teaspoon at the bottom of the glass.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose opens with a rather complex rhum agricole, born of fresh cane and dried fruit. It's covered with a sticky varnish, passed over precious woody notes that are still a little green. A few spices delicately stir the nostrils.

With aeration, the profile oscillates between the ease of a rather candy rum (sweet, sparkling fruit juices) and the gentle elegance of a rum that is already quite mature. It's the still-young oak that contributes to this, alternately distributing fresh aromas of herbs or accents of dried fruit.

The palate is woody and nourished by fatty nuts, in the typical, irresistible style of the house. Dried fruits (apricot and prune) intertwine perfectly in this gourmet paste scented with vanilla and almond. The richness of peanuts can even be felt in this woody, full-bodied thickness.

The finish is long, pastry-like, with cherry pits and mellow, peppery oak tannins.

"A very tasty and generous rum, in the gourmet tradition of Reimonenq..."

On the nose 👃🏻: an immediate attack of salted butter caramel, with distinct vanilla aromas, impossible to miss. Fresh cane takes pride of place, its liveliness leaving no doubt as to the agricultural profile of this rum. Dried fruits, too, as the glass is aired, orange and peach. The woodiness is still light and the vanilla clearly dominates the rest.

On the palate 👅: it easily coats the whole mouth on attack, it's beautifully fresh. It's slightly spicy, the wood plays with notes of cane pepper. It's also a little salty and above all caramelized, more of a blond caramel. In the end, this is quite consistent with the nose. I'm also getting some nuts, and the woodiness is developing a little, reminiscent of peanuts among other things.

The finish is very long and greedy, at once on caramel, vanilla, more discreet dried fruits as well as a note of dry oak wood that lingers 👌

Verdict ⚡️: I find this rum particularly suitable as a digestif, with a good pastry. It's quite a distinctive style, but not too typical either. This rum should appeal to a large number, it's tasty 😀 To be perfectly transparent, this is a bottle I later swapped with another as it wasn't 100% suited to my palate 😉
