Nico's tasting notes
The nose of this rhum arrangé is very sweet, like a very ripe pear. It's reminiscent of a caramelized pear cake, or even a frangipane cake. The apple and pear are definitely there, there's no doubt about it. It's a hybrid drink between pear brandy, Calvados and rum. These aromas remind me of a very familiar scent: the Norman pie crust I prepare with a dash of Calvados. It's pastry-like and creamy, with a hint of eggs.
After a little aeration, the rum remains very fruity, with no aggressive edge. The fruit even manages to make you forget the sugar. The apple is sweet and the pear a little oxidized. The rum is still pastry-like, like butter and sugar shortbread.
True to the nose, the palate is very fruity and pleasant. The cane surfaces in the middle of the pear juice. The sensation is still quite sweet, the fruit is stewed, it's very soft. We can now imagine an apple or pear juice from the farm, very cloudy, soft and without acidity.
The finish will leave some sugar on the lips, but this arranged rum will never have been heavy or sickening.
