Savanna L'Absolu 2023 55.5°: Description and customer reviews

Thierry Grondin, the Savanna distillery's master blender, has created a limited edition cuvée bearing the name "L'Absolu".

For this blend, he selected a variety of the oldest casks available in the distillery's cellars.
These include traditional molasses rums and grand aroma rums aged 10, 13, 15 and even 17 years.

2700 bottles were produced for the 2023 edition.

Nico's tasting notes

The nose is in itself a summary of everything that Savanna knows how to do best, that is to say sublimate the molasses by sometimes bringing it towards the concentration long acquired in barrel, and other times towards the exuberance of a long fermentation which unleashes the fruits.

Aeration gives us access to notes of coffee, prunes, spicy licorice, fig, nuts, as in an old sherry type wine or even a very rich and sticky old banyuls. The concentration and seriousness in gluttony are striking.

The palate leans first towards the big aroma, with a very typical acidity and a touch of astringency, followed by a coppery touch which takes us towards something smoky, then roasted, with pecans and coffee. . We then reach another level of depth, with molasses darker than night, a hint of tar, black resin, leather...

In the finish , the nuts coated with quince or guava paste finish delighting us and linger on the palate for a long time.

“Savanna here makes the best possible use of a great aroma, letting it give panache to an old, well-concentrated eau-de-vie…”
