Aged entirely in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled without reduction or chill filtration, Wolfburn Langskip Batch Strength shows the spirit that Wolfburn distillery is capable of.
Its name comes from Norse, the language of the northerners, and refers to the boats used by the Vikings to carry out their raids.
The reference to Nordic culture is not insignificant, since Wolfburn is located in Thurso, a town whose name is said to derive from the famous god Thor.
Florian's tasting notes
A white wine color with very fine, very slow tears.
The nose is full, powerful and toasty. Toasted sesame, then lots of burnt bread.
An expression of youth with malt and salt, the Bourbon cask comes through clearly with lemon and tangerine. More pastry-like, with vanilla marzipan, pear and apple, as well as shredded coconut and oak shavings.
Powerful entry on the palate, dry and salty, quickly lemony and mineral.
Notes of toast and dried herbs quickly take hold, leaving a bitter, iodized imprint. A little water is needed to allow it to develop its greediness. The vanilla becomes full-bodied, followed by pear and apple.
Sweet. The finish is malty and toasty.
The long finish draws on pepper, grapefruit zest and oak chips.
"A powerful, maritime Nordiste. He needs water to tame it. It's strong..."
