Wood's 100 Old Navy is an aged rum distilled by Diamond in Guyana, and blended in Southampton, England.
It is drunk as a tasting rum, and can also be used in cocktails.
Nico's tasting notes
On the nose, black is black. Roasting is the key word, and notes of coffee, burnt oak and roasted nuts take up all the space. Behind this, a rather light rum with sharp, tangy edges. Flowers mingle with red fruit sweets in a spirit that tickles the nostrils.
Aeration completely liberates the rum and its toasty aromas, while ridding it of its ethereal flights. A good handful of spices have joined the scene, and caramel-heavy nuts roll around happily.
The palate is very thick and roasted, like an unfiltered coffee liqueur where the grounds catch the taste buds. Licorice also takes pride of place, sticky and licorice-like. The mid-palate offers a juicy reduction of pecan and oak that's quite pleasant, before the scorched spices take center stage again.
The finish is long, on coffee and molasses.
"Dark rums are the indispensable allies of certain tiki cocktails, and here's a well-roasted, powerful version..."
