Brugal was founded in the Dominican Republic in 1888 by Don Andres Brugal Montaner, a Catalan who had passed through Cuba before settling in Puerto Plata in the north of the island. It was in Santiago de Cuba that the founder learned the art of distillation and borrowed the tradition of light "ron". The first ageing cellars were built in 1920, and from the mid-twentieth century onwards, Brugal significantly improved and diversified its range.

Brugal rums are molasses rums, typical of the Latin-Caribbean tradition of light rums. After a rapid fermentation, the diluted molasses passes through several distillation columns, from which the rum flows at 95% alcohol. The rum is reduced to 65% before being put into Bourbon or Sherry casks for a minimum of 2 years.

The brand offers rums for cocktails such as Brugal Añejoa blend of rums aged from 2 to 5 years, or the Brugal XV Reserva Exclusiva a blend of rums aged from 2 to 8 years.

It is also present in the field of tasting rums with the Brugal 1888 with its fine balance and subtle woodiness, the result of 10 years' aging on average. Read less
